With autumn nearly upon us, I thought it would be the perfect time to share one of my favorite green smoothie recipes for Fall.

Allow me to introduce you to your new best friend: the superfood pumpkin pie green smoothie.

Don’t be scared–although this smoothie is decidedly green in color, I promise it tastes exactly like pumpkin pie.

High in Vitamin A, protein, fiber and good-for-you omega-3 fats, this creamy and delicious green smoothie is a great way to use up any leftover pumpkin you’ll likely have lying around during the holidays.

It’s also a great detox and one to bookmark for occasions like the day after Thanksgiving, after we’ve all spent a day stuffing ourselves with comfort food.

The ingredient list for this smoothie is a bit longer than my typical green smoothie recipes, but rest assured it doesn’t take any more time to make.

Literally just dump everything into your favorite blender (I highly recommend Vitamix, which you can get on Amazon or direct through their site) and in less than 5 minutes, you’ll have a delicious smoothie that only tastes decadent, but is actually dairy-free and full of body-nourishing ingredients, like Vitamin-A-rich pumpkin (be sure to choose BPA-free cans), nutrient-dense spinach and digestion-friendly ground flaxseed (I love Bob Red Mill’s organic flax).

For an extra superfood boost, I like adding organic wheat grass powder to this smoothie, but if you don’t have it on hand, feel free to skip.

Likewise, I use dates to sweeten my smoothies in favor of using refined sugar, but if you don’t have dates, try organic maple syrup or raw, unpasteurized honey.

I always have grand plans of making my own nut butters and milks, but for those weeks when I can’t find the time, I opt for storebought options that are as close to homemade as possible.

As in, they only contain the nuts themselves, and not much else. Whole Foods and Amazon carry a great all-natural almond butter (there’s literally only 2 ingredients: almonds and sea salt).

And I recommend finding a small-batch almond milk producer near you that makes their milk with only organic almonds and water (in Atlanta, I love Treehouse almond milk).
