The Connection Between Fitness and Mental Health
Fitness has been a crucial part of my self-care routine ever since I was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease. It's easy to feel down, tired, and unmotivated when you're feeling sick. In order to maintain a healthy mental state, it's important to stay active through things like yoga or walking outside. This is where fitness comes in handy! Being able to use working out as a method of self-care has done wonders for my mental health. As people, we want to feel good about ourselves and there’s no better way than being healthy on the inside and out! By being more physically fit and staying active daily, you'll be on your way to feeling more confident in yourself.
Yoga
Yoga is an incredible form of exercise that will improve your mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. Yoga can help with weight loss, lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and increase flexibility. Yoga has a multitude of benefits, but the most important benefit is that it teaches you to be in the moment. In a world where technology dominates much of our lives, yoga provides a respite from all that chaos. You're able to cultivate mindfulness and gain clarity on what's really important in life.
Running
Running is one form of fitness that can provide you with all these benefits. When you run, your body releases endorphins that boost your mood and make you feel better. Your body also becomes more toned and fit. Running burns a lot of calories and provides an effective cardio workout.
Lifting Weights
Lifting weights can be a great way to maintain a healthy body. It's not just about looking good, it's also about feeling good. Lifting weights has many benefits on your physical and mental health. Most people believe that the only reason to work out is to lose weight or look better, but the truth is that lifting weights helps you maintain muscle tone which can lead to a healthier body. According to the American Heart Association, "muscle mass is associated with metabolic and physical health." That’s why it’s important for people who already have high levels of muscle mass (e.g., athletes) as well as people who want leaner bodies (e.g., those interested in losing weight). In short, lifting weights will help you achieve both goals: looking great and feeling great!
Cross Fit
One of the best ways to start your fitness journey is by joining a Cross Fit class. Cross Fit is becoming popular all over the world, as people are realizing it provides a unique way to work out. One of the reasons it's so beneficial is that it forces you to do full-body movements, which can give you a better workout than simply focusing on one muscle group.
