Never have I needed a green smoothie more than this morning. The first one back home after being in Palm Springs the past gluttonous week.

Drying out doesn't even begin to describe what I need after this vacation.

Don't get me wrong–it was glorious. When we weren't eating at Nobu, drinking champagne and watching tennis, we were gorging on tacos or drinking wine in the hot tub. Yeah, it was awesome.

But we're definitely feeling the afterburn today, which means a green smoothie is most certainly in order.

Today's detox of choice: a Blueberry Acai Green Smoothie with Collagen protein.

It's dairy-free thanks to almond milk (New Barn is the cleanest brand I've found at the grocery store as of late–I try to avoid all those additives, gums and carrageenan as much as possible) and frozen bananas (one of my all-time favorite ways to add sweet creaminess to smoothies with no dairy or refined sugar).

It's full of gut-healing, protein-rich Collagen powder and fiber-laden, omega-3-heavy chia seeds.

And if blueberries weren't already superfood enough, it gets an extra boost from acai powder, which is full of antioxidants and tons of micronutrients, like polyphenols and flavonoids.

AND AND AND, you get your leafy green count in for the day thanks to a handful of spinach, which goes completely unnoticed, taste-wise, in this delicious smoothie!

Note: when you first make the smoothie, the color will likely be a lovely, vibrant shade of purple.

But thanks to the green in the spinach, the color quickly oxidizes and can turn a less-than-appetizing shade of brown. Seriously, it still tastes amazing.

Really, this does not mean the smoothie has gone bad. It just means that purple + green = brown. It's going to be okay!

I've mentioned before how I drink a green smoothie every day to help with digestion–it's also one of my favorite ways to up my fruit and veggie intake as each smoothie is usually 2-3 servings. This blueberry acai green smoothie is no different!

The great thing about smoothies is that you don't have to follow any recipes to a T. If you prefer flax instead of chia, great. Not sweet enough for you? Try adding in some dates. Hate almond milk? Try cashew milk or coconut milk.

    Love acai in my smoothies! Definitely a nutrient dense way to start the day. Will have to try it with the Collagen protein.
