Some of you may remember that we moved into a modern farmhouse last October and ever since we’ve been hard at work decorating, gardening, moving furniture around, repainting, you name it.

In fact, earlier this year I shared my Home Office Design with y’all, and last month we took a tour of my kitchen.

But this is perhaps my favorite room to reveal because it’s the one my baby boy will be in come September. It’s time for a baby nursery reveal!!!

Natural Baby Nursery Reveal

As you can see from the photos and the source list below, most of the items I purchased weren’t necessarily meant for baby nursery decor–that was intentional. I really wanted this room to feel timeless, yet modern, and cozy, without having all that cheesy baby gear all over the place looking like a rainbow threw up.

Here are the two nursery designs that inspired my design choice:

Where to Shop for Baby Nursery Furniture

So I shopped at a lot of the stores I normally would for home decor, like West Elm, Target, Crate + Barrel, Anthropologie, etc.

Of course, I did still need some baby-specific nursery furniture and gear, and for all of those needs I went straight to buybuy BABY.

What I love about buybuy BABY is that they have an incredibly wide selection both online and in-store, so if you want to go see anything in person before you buy, the massive store probably has whatever you need in stock.

While not everything in my baby’s nursery is 100% organic or non-toxic, I tried to focus on a few key areas that fit with my natural, eco-friendly mission that would make the biggest impact, like the crib and glider (really any large baby nursery furniture).

buybuy BABY has tons of green baby brands that make this process easy, like Babyletto, Naturepedic, Aden + Anais, Hatch and Baby Bjorn.

I can’t tell you how obsessed I am with Babyletto’s furniture at buybuy Baby–not only is it incredibly affordable and super cute and modern, but the crib we chose is made with sustainable pine, and doesn’t contain harmful substances like lead and phthalate finishes.

It’s also GREENGUARD Gold Certified, which means it has been screened for 360 VOCs and over 10,000 chemicals. Bonus: it easily converts to transform the crib into a daybed or toddler bed.

To go inside the crib, of course, we had to get an organic mattress to seal the deal.

You might remember our epic organic mattress guide from earlier this year…well, baby mattresses are no different, which is why we had to go with Naturepedic.

Our crib mattress is made with organic cotton fabric with easy-to-clean, stain resistant polyethylene waterproof surface. It’s filled with U.S. grown and certified organic cotton and a heavy-duty 252 coil innerspring plus strong 9 gauge edge support (read: super comfy!).

There’s a Built-in Dust Mite/Bed Bug Barrier. It’s not made with allergens like latex or soy, or toxic chemicals like polyurethane foam, vinyl and formaldehyde.

It’s GREENGUARD Gold Certified, GOTS Certified, MADE SAFE certified and certified by the Rainforest Alliance Forest Stewardship Council, and it’s made in the US by a family-owned company.

And it passes all flammability standards without the use of any fire retardant chemicals or chemical flame barriers. We went with the 2 in 1 Organic Cotton Ultra Quilted Mattress because it can grow with our little guy. The waterproof side is perfect for the diaper years, while the quilted side will give him a more luxe, cushy sleep when he gets older.

I also recommend their Waterproof Crib Mattress cover for extra protection.

And the glider? Oh man, I want one in every room of my house! It’s a glider, it’s a rocker, it swivels, it’s got a built-in USB port, it’s chic and stylish, it reclines with a quiet electronic control panel, and it is easily the most comfortable glider I’ve ever sat in.

And I didn’t even mention how safe and natural it is, yet! Not only is the water and stain-resistant upholstery free of chemical flame retardants, but the foam is free from Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs) and the chair itself free of Formaldehyde, Lead Phthalatesates.

I love that buybuy BABY offers modern and eco-friendly baby furniture like Babyletto and Naturepedic!

They also have incredible prices and I’ve gotten so many 20% off coupons that have really helped lessen the blow. In fact, the other day I was able to use a 20% coupon AND another coupon for $25 off my order of $100. Score!

Baby Nursery Wallpaper: Accent Wall

One of the biggest transformations that happened in this room was with the wallpaper and board and batten wall.

We hired contractors for both of these jobs, as installing wallpaper is a beating and I wanted the board and batten to be perfect.

To keep things simple and clean, we just did this as one accent wall, rather than throughout the entire room. Then we painted everything Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore (my favorite white!).

With a white and neutral base, I knew I wanted the baby nursery to feel modern and chic, but still like it was meant for a baby boy.

So I decided to go with a subtle whimsical woodland theme, adding lots of green (plants, art, curtains, pillows and blankets, etc.) where I could with tons of natural materials like teak, marble, woven rattan baskets, and mixed woods.

I also love brass and felt like the warm tone would work perfectly in this space–we used it in the baby mobile above the crib, in some accessories like the gold animals, and in our lighting.

Art is really where you can tie your theme together, and I had so much fun picking everything out on Minted.com. It’s so easy as they ship everything to your doorstep framed and ready to go. And their selection is incredible.

We mixed a few cutesy pieces, like baby animals, with more abstract and botanical art to continue the natural woodland theme.

I also knew that I wanted a bookshelf space to display all the adorable and beautiful baby books–I’d seen this design feature on Pinterest a thousand times and so we hustled over to Ikea and bought a few floating shelves. Super easy to install and a great focal point in the room that’s both form and function.

Natural Baby Nursery DESIGN: COST

I do want to take a second to talk about cost. I’m a firm believer in splurging on certain pieces (usually those that are large furniture items and/or something you want to last a lifetime) and saving on accessories (you’ll see a lot of the accessories in the baby’s nursery come from Ikea, Target and affordable brands at buybuy BABY).

I’m also super fortunate in that my mother is an interior designer and so I usually get at least 20% off retail stores, like West Elm and Crate and Barrel, and am able to purchase furniture from trade-only showrooms, like Four Hands and Regina Andrew, at wholesale cost. This adds up BIG TIME!

Another way we were able to save money on our baby’s nursery was by reusing/repurposing furniture we already had. For example, rather than buying a new changing table, we took this Ikea bookshelf that used to be in my office and converted it to a changing table with some strategically placed baskets, a diaper caddy and the amazing Hatch Grow changing table (it’s also a scale!).

Likewise, we reused this bookshelf and a bunch of accessories we already had to create a little moment for baby boy with reclaimed wood picture frames, woven baskets, pinecone candles to carry the nature theme and a rubber plant to bring in more green, natural elements.

Another way I’m able to save–I buy discounted gift cards and always use coupon codes. Whenever I have a purchase over $100, I go to sites like Cardpool.com and Raise.com and am able to save an additional 5-20% on my purchase, even after applying coupon codes.

You can save up to 6% off buybuy BABY at Cardpool.com and up to 3% off at Raise.com.

To get the best promo codes and cash back savings or frequent flier points, I almost never shop without using Retailmenot.comEbates.comJoinhoney.com, CouponCabin.com, EVReward.comor ChaseUltimateRewards.com. I love using the Chrome extensions these companies offer, so that coupon codes are automatically applied at checkout.

I also use Paribus and Slice to alert me to price drops so that even if something goes on sale after I’ve made the purchase, I can request a price adjustment to save even more.
