My Current Green Beauty Routine
As a green blogger, I am constantly testing out new products and trying new things. BUT, there are certain products I go back to again and again, products that withstand the test of time because they just work. To wit, here are the products that are currently part of my green beauty routine, as of November 2018.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
I typically use these in the shower, but prefer to use oils and balms at night before bed. See below:
Oil Cleansers: I am absolutely addicted to Leahlani’s Pamplemousse Tropical Enzyme Cleansing Oil. It smells INCREDIBLE, gets off all my makeup, while gently exfoliating and brightening my skin.
Makeup Remover: I use my DIY Makeup Remover every day to remove eye makeup.
Toner: True Botanicals Clear Nutrient Toner is gentle and effective, but for something a bit stronger I’ve been loving REN Skincare’s Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic–it’s really helped lighten my acne scars and brighten my skin. I always circle back to my DIY Toner, too!
And for quick pick-me-up spritzes throughout the day, I love Leahlani’s Citrus & Citrine Toning Mist. So light and refreshing and it smells AMAZING!
Moisturizer: These days I’m switching between True Botanicals Clear Pure Radiance Oil in the AM and Leahlani Siren Serum at night. But I also mix in AnnMarie Skincare Herbal Facial Oil for Oily Skin and Kindred Skincare Nightly Nourish every now and then too. I find keeping my skin guessing a bit helps keep it clear and happy.
Facial Scrub: For the best natural alternative to St. Ive’s Apricot Scrub, I love Acure Organics Brightening Facial Scrub, but it can be a little harsh. AnnMarie Skincare’s Kaolin Micro Exfoliant is my go-to for gentle manual exfoliation.
I also love using this exfoliating mitt to scrub my body and face a few times a week–it’s super gentle, makes my skin beyond smooth, and doesn’t require any expensive products.
Face Mask: cocokind organic Ultra Chlorophyll Mask or Beautycounter’s No. 3 Balancing Charcoal Facial Mask are in constant rotation.
My latest obsession though is Leahlani’s Honey Love Exfoliator. I use it more like a mask, just 5-10 minutes, and my skin is so soft afterwards!
Tinted Moisturizer: Beautycounter Dew Skin Moisturizing Coverage SPF20 or Mineral Fusion Illuminating Beauty Balm SPF 9
Foundation Brush: Alima Pure Kabuki Brush
Pressed Powder: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light** gives the most perfect glow with just enough coverage.
Blush: Inika Organics Mineral Blush Puff Pot in Rosy Glow or Vapour Aura Multi-Use Cream Blush Stick–I have it in 3 shades (Eros, Enchant and Rose) and rotate through them all depending on my mood!
Highlighter: Vapour Beauty Winter Solstice Collection has the Halo Illuminator in 24K and it is so beautifully golden and glowy!
Eye Shadow: I rotate between 100% Pure in Satin Cream and Vapour Mesmerize Cream Eye Stick in Sugar for everyday super subtle look that just brightens or RMS Beauty Eye Polish in Magnetic for more of a smoky eye.
Mascara: Inika Organics Vegan Mascara
Eyebrow Definer: Plume Nourish & Define Brow Pomade
Lipstick: I alternate between Beautycounter’s Lip Sheer in Plum, Stowaway Cosmetics Creme Lip Stick in Muted Plum, and Mineral Fusion’s Sheer Moisture Lip Tint in Adorn (this is the perfect natural alternative to Clinique’s Black Honey).
Shampoo: Beautycounter’s Volumizing Shampoo; True Botanicals Nourishing Shampoo and Phillip Adam Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo (these three are the only natural shampoos I’ve found that actually lather and leave my hair feeling clean!)
Hairspray: Josh Rosebrook Hairspray Firm Hold
Hair Serum: Briogeo Rosarco Rosehip, Argan & Coconut Oil Blend (the smell is intoxicating and it tames my frizz like no other!)
Dry Shampoo: I recently discovered Mineral Fusion’s Dry Shampoo (Medium to Dark) and I love how it not only sops up any excess oil, but also doesn’t leave a white, powdery residue in my dark hair.
That said, it’s only good for day 1-2 of no washing. For heavier duty, I like Hair Dance’s Dry Shampoo Volume Powder, which is 100% Natural & Organic and works so well!
Pony Tail Holders: Invisibobble Original in Brown
Hair Brush: Wet Brush Pro gets out the toughest knots and tangles in one clean swipe. I don’t understand how it works, but I’ll never use another brush again!
Curling Iron: Whether I want those beachy waves or tighter curls, I use my Tyme Iron, which makes it easy to replicate flat iron curls without learning the tricky hand techniques!
Hand Soap: EO Hand Soap in Coconut Lavender
Epsom Salt: Epsoak Sleep Formula
Lotion: Acure Organics Rose Marula Body Oil is so moisturizing, but absorbs easily, leaves your skin glowing and smells amazing!
Body Brush (for dry brushing): 100% Natural Boar Bristle Body Brush
Perfume: Ime Natural Perfume in Flirty (a fun and playful scent with fresh citrus notes and a slightly warm green undertone)
Sunscreen: Beautycounter’s Protect All Over Sunscreen SPF 30 (I also love their new Countersun Spray) is the only natural mineral sunscreen I’ve found that actually rubs in with no white, ashy residue!
Self-Tanner: I recently tried Mineral Fusion’s Gradual Self Tan Lotion (I use Medium/Dark) and was blown away by the natural results that happened after just the first use!
Toothpaste: Earthpaste Activated Charcoal in Peppermint get 10% off plus FREE shipping when you use the code ‘ROOT10’ to buy Earthpaste
When I want more of that traditional toothpaste mouthfeel, I reach for Hello Oral Care Fluoride Free Whitening Toothpaste in Sweet Mint.
Toothbrush: TriLink Natural Bamboo Charcoal Toothbrush
Whitening Strips: Oral Essentials Teeth Whitening Strips (these natural strips blow Crest Whitestrips out of the water!)
Pregnancy-Safe Skincare: True Botanicals Pregnancy Line
Fish Oil Supplement: Carlson The Very Finest Fish Oil Lemon
Prenatal Body Wash: Earth Mama’s refreshing ginger-laced Morning Wellness Body Wash
**Note: While most of my personal care/toiletry collection is full of natural, safe and non-toxic products, I’m a firm believer in balance and I’ve found that natural living doesn’t have to be all or nothing in order to have a profound impact, both on your health and the environment. And so there are a few traditional products that I’ve gone back to, even though they’re not the “greenest” or “cleanest”. My goal is to reduce my toxic load where I can, not be perfect.
