Chai Spice Green Smoothie
A fun twist on a Chai latte, this delicious Chai Spice Green Smoothie is gluten-free, dairy-free and full of nourishing ingredients and warming spices!
Greetings from Sunny California! I’m on a writer’s retreat in Sonoma this week, meeting with natural food brands and fellow journalists to chat about all things healthy and delicious. Stay tuned for some fun updates!
Before I headed out here for a week of indulging, I had to make one of my favorite green smoothies, a Chai Spice Green Smoothie—it was both preventative and a form of recovery after a decadent night prior.
You see, on Sunday, I co-hosted an incredible charity dinner with one of my dearest friends, the talented photographer Heidi Geldhauser.
Our community in Atlanta lost an amazing woman, the beautiful photographer Emily Cameron, last year, and in our time of grief, we decided to take something horrible and make something really, really good come from it.
So we organized a dinner with 14 of the city’s best chefs, who collaborated to create a meal-of-a-lifetime, hosted at my favorite restaurant of all time, Umi.
Through these efforts, and the help of all of those who bought tickets to the dinner, we gave a $10,000 scholarship to a service industry worker pursuing a career in the arts (this year’s winner was Natalie Escobar, who’s moving paintings depicting her childhood with a schizophrenic father are so hauntingly beautiful). And we donated over $15,000 to local charity, The Giving Kitchen.
Needless to say, we had all of the feels! My heart has been so full this week as I ride the wave of Cloud 9 that this event created. This is our lemonade.
But I digress. The point is, I was in desperate need of a green smoothie come Monday morning and I had just the thing.
This Chai Spice Green Smoothie is full of all those warming, delicious, heavenly chai flavors, plus it’s bursting with nutrition thanks to the hemp seeds, wheatgrass, spinach and body-nourishing spices (I recommend the Simply Organic brand), like cinnamon, ginger, cloves and cardamom.
And yet, despite all of these amazing attributes, I know there are going to be a few readers who look at this recipe and run away screaming because the ingredient list is long.
I get it, but listen. When you keep a fully stocked pantry of superfoods and staples (all of these ingredients are common and will have dozens of other uses besides this smoothie!), it’s no more difficult to make.
Take 2 minutes to dump everything into your blender (Vitamix or bust! also check Vitamix.com for special deals!) and that’s it. You’re done. It’s as easy as a two-ingredient smoothie, but way more nourishing!
If you love Chai lattes, you will love this smoothie! Let me know what you think in the comments below and be sure to tag @RootandRevel when you make yours 🙂
